I KNEW THIS AT THE TIME OF PURCHASE AND AM VERY PLEASED TO OBTAIN A NEW MALLET OF THIS CALLIBER AT THIS PRICE. SO I DON'T MIND AT ALL THE LITTLE EXTRA TLC IT REQUIRES TO PUT IN USE. FIRST YOU SHOULD UNDERSTAND THIS IS AN UNFINISHED MALLET. LOOKS LIKE ABOUT HALF PRICE.
Cocktailians, here is the perfect ice crusher, paired with a lewis bag or a clean dish towel filled with ice. Then, in the words of David Wondrich, "whack it like your boss's Rolex is in there."
I used my stationary sander to smooth the end grain and applied two coats of polyurethane.The mallet, as it is now, would cost twice as much. Great work Amazon.The mallet quality is about what one should expect for the price. It's hard to complain about a carpenter's mallet at this price. Actually, if all had gone smooth I'd give it 5 stars.I had to return the first mallet as it had many fissures and chips, but Amazon took care of the problem with no hassel. It comes unfinished and the striking end had raised end grain.
